Tell Me About Computer
Processors
For your recording production computer
setup you want as much processing speed as
you can fit in your budget.
Personally I would buy nothing less than 2.0 GHz
(Recommended 2.5 or higher) Most
producers don’t know what a processor is so let me inform
you to be ahead of your competition.
The exact term processor is a sub-system of a
data processing system which processes received
information after it has been encoded into data by the
input sub-system. In common parlance processor is usually
referred to the microprocessor, the brains of the modern
day computers. The most common Brands you will run across or
hear about are AMD’s and Intel. Both of these CPUs are
good for your recording and production setup.
I personally run an Intel P4 chip in my computer
setup and it works well on everything I throw at it. If
you can bypass Celeron CPUs...as you advance in your
recording and production you will be upset at the
performance!
What About
Cooling?
A CPU generates heat while operating. In
operation the temperature of the CPU will thus rise until
the temperature gradient between the CPU and its
surroundings is such that the heat flow matches the input
and the CPU temperature reaches equilibrium. The heat
generated by a CPU is a function of the efficiency of its
design, the technology used in its construction, and the
voltage at which it operates.
My personal choice in fans are 80mm case fans.
They are super quiet and very dependable. Only 28db noise
level and produce very low heat output. The best part is
they install within seconds due to power splitters if you
get the right ones.
