Hip Hop Jewelry

Hip Hop Jewelry is here to stay. Look at LLoyd Banks in this picture yo'. Are you kidding me? He has on at least $500,000 in ice.

Back in the day we called the jewels “Dookey Rope” chains. Every successful rapper I know in the 80’s had them. I’m sure you remember them. The Gold chains were about the size of the rope in front of Captain D’s. LOL…just playin’…but they were huge son. hip hop jewelry

Here is a short list of people who wore them just to refresh your memory. Eric. B. And Rakim, Run DMC, Slick Rick, Beastie Boys, Rob Bass, D.Nice, Digital Underground, Tupac etc.etc.

Check out the old school videos and see if I’m lying…lol. Today the jewels are called Ice or “Bling Bling and trust me that is the word for them. Rap Artist now rock Hip Hop Jewelry in the forms of Canary yellow diamonds earrings to five time zone purple (I-1) diamond watches with crocodile bands. The notorious Jacob the Jeweler provides most of the expensive ice to Hip Hop artist. Also known as Hip Hop’s Lord of the Rings. You have probably heard of him in R.Kelly songs or maybe even seen him strapping down Bad Boy’s Chopper on Making The Band – prt.2. Regardless of where you seen or heard of Jacob you need to know that he is getting his paper. You know, The Cheddar Cheese, The Chili, Cabbage...you catch my drift.

A Jacob and Company watch runs anywhere from $8,000 - $150,000 easy. I don’t know of a rap star today that hasn’t seen him for the ice or is about to see him. The Jewelry is a statement right now in the Hip Hop community. It says hey look…I can afford to where a house around my wrist, neck, fingers and my ears will freeze you to death. “Don’t get to close”.

Rap artist are known for wearing up to 1 million dollars in jewelry when they hit events like “The Source Awards or Grammy’s” and they have big bodyguards to protect it. However, they are guarded 24/7. P.Diddy and Nelly have had a million in jewels get D-Bowed from hotels. Whoa!

I have personally attended concerts here in Atlanta and watched Rappers get their ice snatched right off their neck…like what? Hip Hop Jewelry has been around for 20 years and the more money the rappers make the more money Jacob the Jeweler makes and the more desperate people will connive to get it up off them.

Next time you watch a Hip Hop Rap Video pay attention to the wrist, ears and neck of the artist.
