Cubase SX3 goes far beyond the earlier models of great software. By adding more than 70 new features including the phenomenal audio Wrap Realtime Timestretching. The music production system combines full-featured audio and MIDI recording and editing, crazy virtual instruments and powerful audio mixing with the flexibility of loopand pattern based arranging and mixing. Now that is perfect for the new styles of production using sample CD’s.

The good thing about recording with Steinberg Cubase SX3 is that the software supports Windows XP and Mac OSX. In addition to that it is compatible with a multitude of audio interfaces. That means you can be a PC or Mac lover and still create incredible music from one place.

Take all the above and add things like seamless integration of external audio and MIDI hardware and you have an unstoppable piece of recording software that redefines music production and recording technology.

Top-10 new features of Cubase SX3 - Recording with Steinberg Cubase

  • Audio Warp: Realtime Time Stretching and Pitch Shifting offer extensive new audio editing and processing capabilities, including ACID® File support: loops automatically adopt a project’s tempo; audio files can follow tempo changes in realtime.

  • Intuitive Play Order Track for pattern-based arranging adds a new level of creative music editing. Divide your song into sections, and then re-arrange it on the fly. Compare alternative versions of your song and then convert them back into a linear form for mixdown and mastering.

  • New Inplace Editor supports ultra-fast direct MIDI event editing from within the project page. Edit MIDI events in context with audio or video.

  • New MIDI Device Maps / Panels support direct access to external MIDI hardware with user-definable graphic editing panels. Import VST Mixer Maps or create your own editing panels, even for the Track Inspector or the mixer’s channel strip.

  • User-definable Workspaces (window layouts) help organizing your desktop. Create and save a separate workspace for each step of the production process. Switch Workspaces on the fly, as if working on multiple computers or monitors.

  • Studio Connections “Total Recall” support (optional integration of Yamaha’s Studio Manager 2). The first step into a new dimension of software/hardware integration. This modular editing system builds a powerful bridge between the virtual and physical studio. Opening a project can recall an entire studio setup within seconds.

  • External FX Plugins allow for direct integration of external hardware effects processors into the VST audio mixer. Use your favorite outboard gear just like plugins – including automatic delay compensation.

  • Extended Freeze function for virtual instruments and audio tracks with added flexibility and improved performance. Freeze virtual instruments with or without insert effects. Then automatically unload the instrument to free up RAM. Freeze audio tracks with insert effects to free up even more CPU performance.

  • New part-based Volume Envelopes for direct control of dynamics. Fix level problems on the fly without wasting automation tracks. Then move events with their volume envelopes.

  • User-definable Color Coding for tracks and VST mixer channels provides more clarity and better orientation – especially in complex projects.

Cubase SE Recording With Steinberg Cubase

Steinberg Cubase SE is based on the world renowned Cubase SX. It was designed to help those who have a smaller budget to still have access to professional technologies in their home recording and pre-production project studios. “SE” stands for Special Edition. Just because it’s scaled down doesn’t mean it is not worthy of your money…here is what I mean. The Cubase SE version includes 48 audio tracks, an unlimited number of MIDI tracks, sequencing and hard disk recording features as well as professional 24-bit/96k Hz resolution. The software also offers a vast amount of audio and MIDI recording features with comprehensive editing and effects. One of the best things I like is that if you decide to upgrade to SX or SL versions it’s not a problem. YES!

  • Intuitive Play Order Track for pattern-based arranging adds a new level of creative music editing. Divide your song into sections, and then re-arrange it on the fly. Compare alternative versions of your song and then convert them back into a linear form for mixdown and mastering.

  • User-definable Color Coding for tracks and VST mixer channels provides more clarity and better orientation – especially in complex projects.

  • SL3’s Extended Track Inspector now offers direct access to a VST Instrument’s audio channel strip directly from the MIDI track inspector. In fact, it puts both the MIDI and audio channel’s parameters into one single column making it more accessible and easier to use.

  • When a song is transferred between systems, all plug-in and virtual instrument links stay intact even when some of them are missing on another system. A so-called Dummy Plug-in replaces missing plug-ins until the project is opened on the original system and the plug-ins are back in place.

  • Ever lost a great idea because you forgot to hit “Record”? With Audio Pre Record this will never happen again! Simply set up the amount of time for pre-recording (up to 10 minutes) and whatever you play within that window will be recorded into any record-enabled track – before you actually hit record.

  • A redesigned and overall improved Hitpoint Detection Algorithm now offers more accurate results and easier handling. Choose between presets for different types of audio material or apply Q-points to Hitpoints for more accurate quantization and warping.
